Luxurious Large Sheepskin Rugs

Firstly thank you to all our customers who purchased our superb lined Sheepskin Rugs. Everyone has been so please with them.  I would also like to take the opportunity in apologising for the delay in getting more stock.  The rectangular shape of the Sheepskin Rug has proved so much of a success we ran out of stock. You will also be pleased to know we have had some larger sizes made. They are 200 x 140cm and available only in the Natural White for the moment. If they prove as popular as our other Sheepskin Rugs, then we will have larger sizes made in some alternative colours. Flokatis Rugs

Flokati rugs are a beautiful addition to almost any room in a home. These stunning rugs are so special because they are hand woven from 100% wool, and then are processed in a special water bath to give them that fluffy and very rich appearance so many love. Because of how special they are and the unique creation process, it is important that anyone who has Flokati rugs knows how to clean them properly. Here are three tips that will help you to clean your Flokati rugs properly so that they do not get damaged.

When to Wash

One thing that many people do not realize is that Flokati rugs do not need a solid cleaning very often. This is because they are made from natural wool, and natural wool actually repels dirt. So where you would need to clean a normal carpet a few times a year, a Flokati rug will not need to be cleaned very often, likely less than once a year. How do you tell if it truly needs washing? One way is to give it a good beating. By hanging a rug out on a sturdy line and beating it, you are able to get any surface dust out of it. If the rug still looks dirty after you have done this, then it is likely that you need to wash it in order to get its original colors back.

Hand Washing

Without a doubt, the best way to wash a Flokati rug is to do so by hand. Fortunately it’s not very difficult to do, although you will have to pay close attention to the small things in order to ensure that your rug stays beautiful. First, fill up your bath tub with about six inches of water. Make sure that you do not use hot water, as this will actually cause the rug to shrink, which is not a good idea. Instead, use cool water. You can then put in a bit of detergent that has been designed to clean wool, but make sure that there is no bleach in the product. Use your hand to gently agitate the rug in the water. You will begin to see that the soil will come out of the rug. Then simply rinse with clean, cool water and hang it to dry, but make sure that you hang it away from direct sunlight.

Machine Cleaning

Some Flokati rugs can be cleaned with the help of your washing machine. If you’re thinking of doing so, though, make sure you use a wool detergent that does not have bleach in it and that you run the wash and rinse cycle and cold water and that you have your washing machine set on the delicate cycle. This will help your rug stay beautiful. As soon as the cycle ends, take the rug out and shake off any water that still remains. Then do the same as you might for a hand washed one – dry it on a line outside out of the line of direct sunlight.  Do Not Tumble Dry.

The Icelandic Sheepskin Rugs are very natural and individual, they have not been dyed, so they maintain all their original markings and colour pigment. The characteristics are long fluffy wool, naturally shaped; the wool also tends to be curlier than your standard Sheepskin Rug and very soft to the touch.

If you can imagine a really soft dense wool,  minimum thickness of 70mm. The single sheepskin rugs are a minimum length of 110cm,  width 65cm. If you compare this to other sheepskins you will find a big difference. When you actualy handle them you will find they are heavier than most Sheepskins, again a sign of good quality.
