3 weeks ago I brought my pair of shih tzus to the veteran for a distemper vaccination. Both George and Eve are similar in weight there is only a difference of 3 pounds, George weighs 14 pounds and Eve 17 lbs. They both enjoy going to the vet, each one gives them so much notification. Chloe went in first.
Eve sprinted back out when the veteran had completed testing her Something strange then happenned Eve began to throw up and within five minutes was vomiting all over the veteran. Our shih tzu laid down and wouldn't move. We were obviously troubled at this stage and all we could do was wait and expect the best. Things didnt recover at all with poor Eve wobbling all over the place, it was almost as if someone had shot her with a tranquilizer dart she was in so much discomfort.
When the veteran saw what was around he hurried to his cabinet to get some steroids for our shitzu. Only time would inform whether this would have the desired outcome on the vaccination she had been given. Her breathing became very labored, and she looked even less reactive. We rushed her to a specialty hospital where she was admitted in serious state There was only so much John could do so we took her to a special hospital for pets. The next 24 hours were important and we didnt know if she would recover the night.
The dog clinic took very good care of her and made sure she got her intravenous drip and oxygen as well. Few people in the clinic were particularly positive about the possible result for our shih tzu dog . She spent 2 days in the clinic being pumped with drugs which was a bit disappointing as you could tell she was uncomfortable. What took place was she suffered from anaphylaxis shock, if you have ever seen someone eat peanuts and is allergic then you know what I am talking about. The good news is that she is making great footsteps forward in her recuperation.
She drinks her water and likes to sleep more than before but I can only believe this is because the whole incident was so harrowing for her. Her road to improve has been a tough one but she will be in normal state within a couple of weeks, of that I am 100 per cent positive. It is amazing how much I now know about these injections that are given to dogs, I spend a huge amount of time researching the on the net.
The shih tsu breed are most effected by these types of injections apparently and it is not that unusual .And I will be working to get "full disclosure" for people that take their pets to get immunized. It really cost us a lot of money we could ill afford to spend however we would do anything for our dog.I really consider strongly though that people should never have to observe what happenned to us.
